Lorna Darden asked:

Struggling with a low sex drive can be a big issue individually for a woman and a strain in a relationship. It can be an embarrassing subject to talk about. As we get older our bodies go through so many changes. Going through preimenopause and menopause can put you at several risks of skin problems, hormone issues, behavioral issues, high estrogen levels and weight gain. During the time of menopause the changes can be stressful, especially dealing with work, teenagers in the home, relationships, aging and life. Sex isn’t really an important issue with all that’s going on.

There’s nothing wrong with having a healthy sex drive, but when it just goes away, the first thought is to find out why it is happening. Sex offers many benefits to your health, like relieving stress, improving your skin, gaining energy and sharing that special feeling with the one that holds that special place in your heart.

There are physical and emotional factors that cause a low libido. Hormonal imbalance is a very simple cause of having a low libido. Your hormones can get out of control when you are in the preimenopause stages, which can have side effects of fatigue, insomnia, hot flashes, weight gain and mood swings. When your hormones are off balance it can also create skin problems during this process.

Stress plays a big role in these circumstances. Stress affects your body tremendously and puts your body a little off balance. The body naturally goes into survival mode before pleasure. When worn out your adrenal glands can rob your body of building blocks it uses to make estrogen and testosterone which are very important to desire and sexual response.

Many do not know this, but nutrition has an affect on your libido. Malnutrition creates hormonal imbalance. Chronic dieting has a huge impact on your self image, energy and therefore your sex drive. Low-fat diets are a problem too. You need lipids which make hormones and testosterone and you need testosterone in order to have a sex drive. Lipids are form of organic compounds which contains fat, oil, and other substances like carbohydrates and protein which are structural components of living cells.

During the preimenopause stage sexuality is a concern. For some of us sexuality begins with the strong attractive towards a man. Biologists say women are the only species that are attracted by their own pheromones. Feeling sexy is necessary to feel desire. Another factor that plays a role in developing a low libido is being in a destructive relationship. Being physically abused, emotionally neglected, dealing with infidelity and being controlled in a relationship can lead to this condition as well. There are a number of aspects to look at.

If you want to improve it, go see your doctor. You can start thinking in a different way so that you can begin nurturing yourself. Improve on your health and lifestyle. Stress is deadly to the body, get motivated and stay positive. There are other methods to increasing your sex drive. Supplements are available to those who choose to take an alternative method.
